You are on an Ashby application when the address contains jobs.ashbyhq.com, or when a company’s own careers page shows a form that says it is powered by Ashby. There is no account to create. The whole application is one page, and you send it once with Submit Application.
What the form asks for
- Autofill from resume, an optional upload at the very top. More on this below.
- Name and email.
- Resume, a separate upload further down. This is the one the employer receives.
- The employer’s own questions: written answers such as “Why us?”, Yes/No questions, dropdowns, and often where you are based.
- Links, such as your LinkedIn profile.
- Optional equal-opportunity questions on some US postings.
Quirk 1: “Autofill from resume” can undo your work
The box at the top reads your CV and fills in the form from it. That is handy on an empty form, but it rewrites what is already there, so anything you typed before using it can be replaced.
- Use it first or not at all. Upload there before you type anything, then correct what it filled.
- It is not the Resume field. Uploading at the top does not necessarily attach your CV for the employer. Before you submit, check that the Resume field further down shows your file’s name.
Quirk 2: Yes and No are switches
Ashby shows yes-or-no questions as two buttons. They behave like switches: click your answer once and it is selected; click it again and it is unselected. If you click “No” twice to be sure, the question is left empty, and the form will refuse to submit. Before you send, look at each Yes/No question and make sure one button is highlighted.
Quirk 3: the location field wants a choice from its list
Where the form asks where you are based, type the first letters of your city, wait for the suggestions, and click one. Text you typed but did not choose from the list does not count.
The employer’s questions
Ashby forms often ask a direct written question, such as “Why [Company]?”. Keep the answer short and specific; our guide to answering “Why do you want to work here?” shows how. If someone at the company referred you, there is often a question for their name. Use it, because a referral is noticed.
When it won’t submit
Ashby names the problem: “Missing entry for required field” followed by the field. The usual causes are a Yes/No question clicked twice, a location typed but not chosen, or the Resume field left empty because the CV only went into the autofill box. For anything else, see our guide to applications that won’t submit.
How Draftloop helps on Ashby
- It never uses the autofill box. Draftloop attaches your CV to the Resume field itself, as the original file, so nothing it has filled gets rewritten and the employer actually receives your CV.
- It treats Yes and No as switches. It answers from your profile, and it never clicks an answer that is already selected, so a correct answer is never switched off.
- It chooses your location from the list, and keeps the choice once the form has accepted it.
- It makes sure each answer registers. A typed answer the page has not taken in counts as missing when you submit, so Draftloop finishes each entry the way the page expects, not just in the box you can see.
- It writes the open questions, such as “Why [Company]?”, from your CV and the job posting, marked purple for you to read first. Equal-opportunity questions, consent and the Submit button are left to you.
