How to apply on Oracle Taleo and Oracle Recruiting Cloud

Oracle has two hiring systems, and they work quite differently. Taleo, the older one, has you create a username and password. Oracle Recruiting Cloud, the newer one, sends a code to your email instead. Here is how to tell which you are on, and how to get through each.

Which one are you on?

  • Taleo: the address contains taleo.net. You will be asked to create an account with a username and password.
  • Oracle Recruiting Cloud: the address contains oraclecloud.com, often with CandidateExperience in it. There is no password. You confirm who you are with a code sent to your email, or sometimes to your phone.

Many employers are moving from Taleo to Recruiting Cloud, so you will meet both. Either way, each employer’s site is separate, and an account at one does not work at another.

Oracle Recruiting Cloud, step by step

  1. Press Apply on the job.
  2. Enter your email address and accept the employer’s terms, which usually means its privacy notice.
  3. Enter the verification code sent to your email, then press Verify. Check your spam folder if it does not arrive. If you have applied to this employer before, you may first be asked to confirm your last name or date of birth.
  4. Fill in your details: contact information, your CV, work history and education, depending on what the employer asks for.
  5. Answer the application questions, then review and submit.

Because there is no password, you sign in the same way next time: your email address, then a fresh code. Use the same email for every application to that employer, so your details are waiting for you.

Taleo, step by step

  1. Press Apply Online on the job.
  2. Choose New User and create a username and password. This account is separate from anything else at the employer, even if you work there already, unless the employer tells you otherwise.
  3. Work through the profile sections: personal details, education and employment history, then any questionnaires the job adds.
  4. Review and submit. Some employers end with a page asking you to confirm, or sign electronically, that your answers are true.

Taleo keeps your profile at that employer, so a second application there starts from what you entered the first time. Use a personal email address rather than a work one, and keep the username somewhere safe. The sign-in page has links to recover a forgotten username or password.

A box to leave empty

Some Oracle application pages contain a field that is visible but labelled something like “honeypot”. It is a trap for automated form-fillers. Leave it empty: typing in it can get your application treated as a bot’s.

When something goes wrong

  • The verification code never arrives. Check spam and promotions folders, wait a few minutes, and ask for a new code. Make sure you typed the email address you meant.
  • Taleo says your username is taken. You may already have an account with this employer from an earlier application. Use the recovery link instead of creating another.
  • The page signs you out. Long applications can time out. Copy long answers somewhere safe as you go.
  • Anything else. See our guide to applications that won’t submit.

How Draftloop helps on Oracle sites

  • It is ready on both systems as each page loads, and fills new fields that appear without the page reloading.
  • It fills your details and the application questions from your Draftloop profile, and marks in amber what it could not answer.
  • It leaves the honeypot box empty. Draftloop recognises these traps and never types into them.
  • Codes and passwords are yours. Draftloop never fills a password box, and the verification code, the terms and the Submit button are always for you.
