How to fill out a BambooHR job application

BambooHR is popular with small and mid-sized companies, and its application is short: one page, no account. It does ask a few things other systems don’t, such as your full address, the date you could start and the pay you want. Here is what to put in each.

A BambooHR job lives at an address like company.bamboohr.com/careers. Press Apply for This Job and the form opens on the same page. There is no account and no password: fill it in once and press Submit Application.

Before you start

  • Your CV as a file. BambooHR accepts many file types, even images, but a PDF is the one that reliably opens well for the person reading it.
  • Your full postal address.
  • The earliest date you could start.
  • The pay you want, as a figure you are comfortable with.
  • Ten minutes, a little more if the employer adds written questions.

What the form asks for

A typical BambooHR application asks for:

  • first and last name, email and phone;
  • address, city, state, postcode and country;
  • your CV, through a Choose File button;
  • Date Available and Desired Pay, often required;
  • depending on the employer, a LinkedIn or website link, a cover letter, and how you heard about the job;
  • the employer’s own questions, often yes-or-no, such as whether you are authorised to work in the country.

Your address, if you live abroad

Small companies often ask for an address because where you live affects payroll and tax. If you live outside the United States and the State list has nothing that fits, choose your country first and see whether the form changes. If it still only offers US states, the role may only be open to people living in the US. Check the posting before going further; our guide to whether a remote job is really open to you shows what to look for.

Date Available

Give the earliest date you could realistically start, counting your notice period, not today’s date. If you need to give a month’s notice, a date a month or so away is honest and normal.

Desired Pay

This is often required, so you cannot leave it empty. Give a real figure, say whether it is per year, month or hour, and name the currency if you are applying from another country, for example “USD 4,000 per month”. Our guide to salary expectations explains how to choose the number.

The box to leave empty

Some BambooHR forms start with a field labelled “Please leave this field blank”. That is exactly what to do. It is a trap for automated sign-ups, and anything typed into it can get the application treated as spam.

After you submit

You will see a confirmation on the page. There is no candidate portal for BambooHR applications, so keep your own record of where you applied and when. Small companies often reply directly by email, so check your spam folder too.

How Draftloop helps on BambooHR

  • It fills the long contact section from your profile: name, email, phone and address.
  • It answers Desired Pay from the salary expectation you saved, and never with a figure below the range you gave.
  • It attaches your CV as the original file and checks that the page shows it.
  • It leaves the trap box empty, and marks in amber anything it could not answer, so you can see what is left.
  • It never submits for you. Read it through, then press Submit Application yourself.
