How to fill out a SmartRecruiters job application

SmartRecruiters applications begin with a button that says “I’m interested” and a short Easy Apply form that can fill itself from your CV. It is quick, with a few things worth checking before you press Next. Here is what to expect.

A SmartRecruiters job lives at an address like jobs.smartrecruiters.com/Company/…, though some large employers show the same jobs on their own careers site. Instead of an Apply button, the posting has one that says I’m interested. It opens a short form called Easy Apply.

Before you start

  • Your CV as a file. The form can read it and fill in your details.
  • Your phone number with its country code, and the city you live in.
  • A few sentences on why you want the job, for an optional message box.
  • Ten to fifteen minutes, more if the employer adds questions on later pages.

Step 1: your CV, or Indeed

The form opens with a box that says “Choose a file or drop it here”. Upload your CV there and SmartRecruiters fills in what it can find. Some postings also offer Apply With Indeed, which takes your details from an Indeed profile instead. Either way, read every field it filled before you move on.

Step 2: your details

  • First and last name.
  • Email, twice. The form asks you to confirm it. Read it slowly: a typo here means the recruiter cannot reach you, however good the rest is.
  • City and phone number. Choose your country’s code for the phone.
  • Links: LinkedIn, a website, and social profiles such as Facebook or X. All optional. Add only what you would be happy for an employer to look at.

Step 3: the message to the company

Easy Apply has an optional box headed “Let the company know about your interest working there”. It is a short cover letter in all but name, and most people skip it. Three or four sentences about why this company and what you would bring stand out. Our guides to “Why do you want to work here?” and optional cover letters help with what to say.

Next: the employer’s questions

Press Next and the employer’s own questions follow: eligibility to work, availability, sometimes salary or a written answer, and on some US postings optional equal-opportunity questions. Answer the eligibility questions exactly. Then review and submit.

After you submit

You should receive a confirmation by email, and later updates usually arrive the same way. Keep your own record of the application, including the link, because postings close and disappear.

How Draftloop helps on SmartRecruiters

  • It can see SmartRecruiters’ fields. Easy Apply builds its form from web components whose inputs are hidden from ordinary autofill. Draftloop reads inside them, so your name, email, city and links are filled even here. The phone number box works differently, and Draftloop leaves that one for you.
  • It fills from your Draftloop profile, which you have already checked, instead of a fresh reading of your CV.
  • It writes the message box from your CV and the job posting, marked purple for you to read first, and fills new questions as later pages appear.
  • It leaves the final say to you. Anything it could not answer is marked amber, and the Submit button is always yours.
